Carole Stott, Chair

"The incoming Chair will need to bring an established reputation among senior business leaders and empathise with our aim of improving the prestige of apprenticeships and technical education."

Carole Stott, Chair

Welcome

Dear Candidate,

Thank you very much for your interest in being our next Chair.

WorldSkills UK is part of a global movement to draw out the potential of young people and equip businesses for skills of the future. We already work with 100,000 young people every year and attract 70,000 visitors to our flagship event, the Skills Show.  Our national and international skills competitions develop and promote world class standards across a range of skills showcasing and inspiring the best UK talent from all four home nations.

I have had the privilege of serving as the Chair of WorldSkills UK for the past 6 years and we have now set an ambition of helping 1,000,000 young people by 2022. As part of our new strategy, we want to change the balance of the board to strengthen representation from business stakeholders alongside leaders from the education and skills sector. This is why we want the new Chair to come from a business background to lead the next stage of our development.

Our CEO, Dr. Neil Bentley, formerly Deputy Director General of the CBI, has proved to be an inspiring leader to our teams, partners and stakeholders. Together with a strong government relationship, able Board and experienced team, the new Chair can build from strength and put their mark on the next stage of WorldSkills UK's development.

The incoming Chair will need to bring an established reputation among senior business leaders and empathise with our aim of improving the prestige of apprenticeships and technical education. Balancing the needs of government, business and education sector stakeholders will continue to be key to our success. If you are moved by this opportunity, we would be delighted to hear from you.

I hope you find the information on this microsite helpful and if you wish to have an informal and confidential conversation about the role please contact our advising consultants at GatenbySanderson, Paul Aristides (020 7426 3987 / paul.aristides@gatenbysanderson.com or Katy Giddens (020 7426 3973 / katy.giddens@gatenbysanderson.com)

Yours sincerely

Carole Stott MBE, Chair
